HP Envy 14 Spectre Now Selling, 15-Inch Version In the Works

HP Envy 14 Spectre For Sale Now

The HP Envy 14 Spectre is a big leap forward from its predecessor, the HP Envy 14, according to PCWorld's laptops editor, Jason Cross. In his early look at the Envy 14 Spectre, Jason noted that this Ultrabook is nearly two pounds lighter than the regular Envy 14, and has a higher-res display (1600 by 900 pixels instead of 1366 by 768 pixels).

The Envy 14 Spectre is also different, design-wise--it features Gorilla Glass on the lid, keyboard deck, and touchpad.

The $1399.99 pre-order price at HP gets you the base model, which sports a second-generation Intel Core i5 processor, a 128GB solid state drive, 4GB of RAM, and a 4-cell battery that will supposedly get you 9.5 hours on one charge. Standard shipping is currently free, and the system will ship on March 1, 2012.

HP Envy 15 Spectre Coming Soon?

The Envy 14 Spectre crams a 14-inch display inside a 13.3-inch body, much like the Asus U47 Ultraportable and the Dell XPS 14z. But if 14 inches of screen real estate isn't enough for you, you may want to wait a bit longer for a larger model. According to Taiwan-based trade publication DigiTimes, HP is showing off a 15-inch version of the Envy Spectre for about $2190.

Because of the price difference between the Taiwan and U.S. markets (the Envy 14 Spectre is currently selling for about $1640 in Taiwan), we can expect the Envy 15 Spectre to start around $1900 when it hits our shores.
